Proud to be an American
March 5, 2010
If tomorrow all the things were gone
Above are lyrics from Lee Greenwood's song God Bless the USA.
Fifty short years ago life in America was very different. We had three channels on our television, a party line telephone which meant occasionally you would hear another person's telephone conversation on your phone, we also had telephone operators to whom you gave the number you wanted to call. Games for kids were limited, so our "play" time was spent outdoors. The movie theatre in town played one movie for a period of time. Families did a lot more things together, often just socializing with relatives. There were dances to go to, picnics to cook for, card games on a Friday night, church on Sunday, family dinners together every night . . . simple things. Face-to-face communication was important then, and it enabled our relationships to be close and meaningful.
One of the things I remember with both amazement and disheartenment is how my parents would leave their car on the street unlocked, with the windows open, and on warm summer nights our house would frequently be unlocked and only the screen door closed. We lived in a safe world back then, at least in our little town. I remember walking a mile across town at 15 years old to get from a friend's house to mine, often late at night.
I don't know if we'll ever see that kind of freedom again, but a free America is definitely worth fighting for. As Lee Greenwood's song reminds us, "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free, and I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me."
This is the second in a series of patriotic messages. If you enjoy them, write us and let us know.

As we develop our team, they all say the same thing about Outfluence, LLC and Constant Messaging™: "This is how I want to live my life." Here is what excites them so much. Constant Messaging is a communication form in which you silently, and often unintentionally, reveal who you are by what you read, what you watch, what you wear, what you write, what you say and how you say it, by your education, and by your associations. In December 2008 Harvard Medical School released the results of a 20-year study which complement the real-life experience base of the practitioners of Constant Messaging. "There's kind of an emotional quiet riot that occurs and takes on a life of its own, that people themselves may be unaware of. Emotions have a collective existence. They are not just an individual phenomenon." - Harvard Medical School A contemporary identifier of this type of communication is Constant Messaging™, or CM'ing . You see, we are communication machines, and we are constantly sending messages... silently. In the 20th Century this form of communication was known as body language. In the 21st Century we have expanded the definition and call it Constant Messaging. It can work both for you and against you. The purpose of this website is to introduce you to the power of silent communication, and to show you how you can apply it positively in your life. "It's extrremely important and interesting work." - Daniel Kahneman, Psychologist and Nobel Laureate, commenting on the results of the Harvard Medical School study "Body language and emotional signals must matter." - James Fowler, University of California, co-author of the Harvard study. Outfluence, LLC is filled with life principles that people of any age can embrace. Our personal development programs begin with middle school children.
